A.T. Kearney House of Purchasing and Supply

In 1999, I received an invitation by the specialized consulting firm A.T. Kearney to participate in their global "Assessment of Excellence in Procurement" research project, to be conducted among "global champions" to identify "best practices" in various industries. This was a great challenge and an offer no purchasing manager could refuse.

The research work was scrutinizing and particularly meticulous and multi-faceted.

Numerous questionnaires were being answered and even personal interviews done in Athens with the A.T. Kearney experts. Finally, the global results were presented at regionally organized Executive Roundtables.

This was an excellent occasion to realize how common the Procurement problems are across all industries. This approach creates a common way of thinking and problem solving, which helps to increase Purchasing contribution to the corporate goals.

And one realizes that indeed, for all insiders, Procurement is the corporate secret weapon...
